Study Abroad Opportunities

NYU-Run Activities

NYU undergraduates can spend a semester studying abroad at one of the many centers run by NYU Global Programs. Currently, mathematics can be studied at NYU Abu DhabiNYU BerlinNYU ParisNYU London, and NYU Shanghai. If you are studying abroad at an NYU site listed above AND you are interested in taking a mathematics course at the NYU site, please double check with us first whether the course counts to your degree requirements. You can contact us via email at undergrad@math.nyu.edu. We cannot guarantee that each mathematics course at a NYU study abroad site can count towards your math major or minor degree requirements at NYU CAS.

NYU Abu Dhabi

NYU Abu Dhabi offers the following Mathematics courses that may be of interest to Courant students: Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Probability, and Statistics, Abstract Algebra I, Abstract Algebra II, Analysis I, Analysis II, Calculus with Applications to Economics, Calculus with Applications to Science and Engineering, Mathematical Modeling, Multivariable Calculus with Applications to Economics, Dynamical Systems, Complex Analysis, Numerical Methods, Topology, Advanced Game Theory, and Special Topics in Mathematics. NYUAD also provides a breadth of related courses through its Economics and Computer Science majors. Classes at NYUAD have an average size of 14.  Students come from over 120 countries. For more information on courses and study abroad at NYUAD, please visit NYU Global Programs.

Students from NYU New York who wish to build their research experience during a semester abroad may apply for funded Undergraduate Research Assistantship opportunities for fall, spring, or both semesters. The assistantship creates a platform for visiting students to contribute to an ongoing research project under the supervision of an NYUAD faculty member, who will serve as a mentor, collaborator, and role model. Additionally, students will have access to state-of-the-art research facilities on campus. The UAE’s infrastructure and geographic location make it a hub for internal and external travel, whether it is an exploration of the Middle East or further afield or adventures within the UAE. NYU Paris

At NYU Paris you benefit from small class sizes and hands-on learning with engaged instructors.  You can participate in a math and science “boot-camp” to be sure your skills are up to speed, and select from a range of courses in the sciences, humanities and social sciences offered by NYU Paris and our Paris university partners, including the University of Paris Dauphine and Sciences Po.  You join an international group of NYU undergraduates from around the NYU network and can participate in student clubs, improve your French through our immersive French language courses and the Tandem language exchange program, and explore Paris and beyond with your instructors and the NYU Paris staff.  We take students to visit the Paris-based Google headquarters and the start-up campus Station F; on walking tours and museum visits; and on overnight trips to discover the rich regional diversity of France.  Students live in dorms or with host families.

**For Fall 2021, programming and exchange opportunities with partner universities may be limited due to Covid-19 restrictions.  On-line options will be substituted where possible.

NYU Shanghai

NYU Math majors and minors can take many upper level courses at NYU Shanghai in the fall and spring semesters. The following math courses are offered in Shanghai and equivalent to the Courant courses:Discrete Mathematics, Calculus I, Calculus III, Linear Algebra, Mathematics for Economics I, Theory of Probability, Probability and Statistics, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Functions of a Complex Variable, Analysis, Honors Analysis I and Honors Analysis II. Students are part of a vibrant student community and take advantage of Chinese culture and art classes, join intramural sports teams and participate in many student clubs and organizations. Students can also take advantage of internships and resources from Shanghai's full service Career Development Center (CDC). Students travel all over China and Asia during the school holidays.
