Geometric Analysis and Topology Seminar

Holomorphic Disks and Link Invariants

Speaker: Peter Ozsvath, Columbia

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 813

Date: Friday, March 3, 2006, 11 a.m.

Synopsis:

I will describe a variant of Heegaard Floer homology for links in the three-sphere. This gives rise to a multiply-graded theory whose Euler characteristic calculates the multi-variable Alexander polynomial. This theory also encodes the Thurston polytope of the link complement. The work described here is joint with Zoltan Szabo.
