Excursion to Cape Evans, November 27

Cape Evans will be the location of an ice hole for our use. To cut
the hole and set up the hut we traveled by snowmobile along a 15 mile
route, in clear weather but strong winds. Cape Evans is famous as
the location of the hut used by Scott in his attempt of 1911.

This map aboveshows the route we traveled over the ice.

Here are some scenes enroute:

Below, we pass another party.

A 4 foot diameter ice hole is drilled, hut 19 is pushed over it.

Here we are with the completed hut.

Hut 19 is an inverse walk-in refrigerator, with the appropriate latch.

Lighting the stove. The mechanism is simple and sure.

survival bag and extra fuel behind me.
