Flexible C2 Subdivision Scheme Over a Spherical Domain and Possible Applications

Speaker: Sara Grundel, Courant

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302

Date: Friday, October 15, 2010, 1 p.m.

Synopsis:

We will see the connection between B-Splines and Subdivision and we will generalize this idea to 2-D. We will learn how to analyze Subdivision Surfaces. A result by Reif and Prautzsch tell us how hard it is to construct a \(C^2\) scheme. We will however find that in the case of a spherical domain we can get around this result. We will discuss how we got our \(C^2\) scheme that works over spherical domains and talk about possible applications.

This is joint work with Professor Thomas Yu (Drexel University).
