Primary text: Calculus I: One variable by Salas, Hillem, and Etgen (Wiley Custom Services). Special edition available only at NYU bookstore.
Supplementary text: Differential and Integral Calculus I, II, R. Courant, (Wiley). Primarily used in Calc II and III.
Syllabus. In each ``week,'' Lecture 1 corresponds to Wednesday and Lecture 2 corresponds to Monday.
Calculators: A graphing calculator is useful for understanding the connection between equations and graphs. Calculators are not required for the course, however, and will not be permitted in exams.
Course requirements and grading: Homework will be assigned on a regular basis and will typically be due one week after the assignment.

There will also be a weekly 5 minute quiz given every Wednesday at the beginning of class. This quiz will have one or two problems taken from the book's exercises.

There will be three midterm exams, each lasting one hour. They are scheduled for October 12, November 14, and December 7. The first will cover the material from Chapters 2 and 3, that is included in the syllabus, and Sections 4.1 and 4.2.

To all exams, you may bring one sheet of paper covered front and back by your own notes. You will not be able to use any text book or a calculator.

The course will end with an in-class final examination to be held on Friday December 16 beginning at 2:00pm.

During an exam, students must not communicate in any way, nor use any materials or technology not explicitly permitted by the instructor, other than pens and pencils. A student may not look at another student's test.

Free help: Free tutoring (not private) is available Monday-Thursday in room 523 of Warren Weaver Hall. A schedule is posted on the door. Free help with Calculus I is also available through the College Learning Center (Weinstein Hall).
