Tenure Track Positions

The Courant Institute Department of Mathematics anticipates having a small number of faculty positions in mathematics to begin in September 2012. Appointments may be made at either a junior or senior level. These positions will be in a range of areas in computational, applied and pure mathematics; three particular areas of interest are computational statistics, finance and atmosphere ocean science. Some may be multidisciplinary appointments that are joint with a science department from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Joint Faculty Position

Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences &Department of Biology
Center for Genomics and Systems Biology


As part of an interdisciplinary initiative at NYU, applicants are invited to apply for a faculty position (rank open) to be held jointly between the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, and the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology in the Department of Biology. Candidates working at the interfaces of Biology (genomics, regulatory networks, genetic variation), Scientific Computation (simulation, data analysis) and Modeling, with particular emphasis on Statistical Analysis, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants with a PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or Mathematics are preferred. Candidates will be expected to have or to develop an active, externally funded research programs, and to participate in teaching activities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Courant Institute is a leading center in both pure and applied mathematics and computer science with relevant areas of research including statistical modeling, numerical analysis, machine learning, computational biology, and probability theory. The Biology Department and its Center for Genomics and Systems Biology offers an outstanding collegial and collaborative research environment with a strong emphasis on research at the interface of genomics, developmental genetics and evolution, enhanced by its collaborations with Courant and established genomic consortia initiatives with New York institutions.

Clinical Faculty Positions

The Courant Institute's Department of Mathematics seeks to fill a Clinical Faculty position in mathematics. The primary responsibility will be teaching, developing, and supporting sections of entry level courses through multivariable calculus and linear algebra. Applicants must have a strong background in advanced mathematics, including a Ph.D., as well as sophistication about undergraduate teaching, learning, and curricular issues. Candidates should present evidence of outstanding classroom success, together with teacher-training, assessment, and organizational skills.
