Using kinetic theories to model structured populations can link microscopic individuals' behavior and macroscopic population dynamics. In my talk, I will introduce how to apply kinetic theories to model a structured cell population that could quantify both uncertainties in individual cells' dynamics (intrinsic noise) and fluctuations in the number of cells in the population as a result of the birth/death process (demographic noise).

The second part of my talk focuses on an application of kinetic theories for modeling an age-structured population in which cannibalism could occur. By using kinetic theories and appropriate mean-field approximation, we can obtain an integrodifferential equation satisfied by the age-structured population. Specifically, the total number of individuals in the structured population could experience overcompensation and non-damping oscillatory behavior as a result of cannibalism.
